Personal Injury Facts

  • Personal Injury - In the United States , accidents kill two people and injure 330 others every ten minutes. For persons 38 years of age and younger, accidents are the leading cause of death, according to the National Safety Council.
  • Prescription Drugs - Every year approximately 200,000 Americans die from prescription drug reactions.
  • Auto Accident - There are approximately 12 million automobile accidents every year according to the National Safety Counsel (NSA).
  • Transportation Accident - There are over 3 million injuries a year from transportation accidents and around 40,000 fatalities.
  • Amusement Park Accident - The Consumer Protection Safety Commission estimates the number of serious injuries on amusement park rides that are severe enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room have raised to almost 5000 each year. 
  • Bicycle Accident - Nearly one million children are injured each year in bicycle related accidents.
  • School Bus - There are 12,000 injuries and 130 deaths involving school buses annually.
  • Child Abuse - Experts estimate that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 8 boys under the age of 18 will be involved in some form of forced sexual experience with an adult.
  • Auto Accident - The leading cause of death of children between the ages of 4 and 14 is automobile accidents.
  • Boating Accident - According to the United States Coast Guard, there are over 8,000 boating accidents each year. Over 700 fatalities and tens of thousands of serious injuries occur every year as a result of capsizes, falls overboard, disappearances, fire, sinking, flooding, explosions and collisions with other vessels.
  • Swimming Accident -Every year over 1,000 children die in swimming related accidents. For every child who drowns, six receive emergency room care.
  • Dog Bites - There are almost 5 million dog bites per year. About 800,000 victims per year require medical treatment. 1,000 dog bite victims per day are seen in hospital emergency rooms.
  • Ground Water Contamination - Seventy-four pesticides have been detected in the ground water of 38 states.
  • Motorcycle Accident - More than 80 percent of all reported motorcycle accidents result in injury or death.
  • Nursing Homes - There are approximately 17,000 nursing homes in the United States caring for over 1.6 million older adults.
  • Train Accident - Each year there are approximately 3,000 train accidents in the U.S. and about 1,000 people lose their lives.
  • Slip & Fall Accident - Slip and fall incidents cause 15% of all accidental deaths, and are second only to motor vehicle accidents as a cause of accidental deaths.
  • Spinal Cord Injury - Each year, nearly 11,000 Americans sustain a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI), and many of them suffer permanent disabilities. More than 190,000 persons in the U.S. live with paralysis caused by SCI.
  • Brain Injury - In the United States alone, over 1,000,000 people suffer from brain injuries each year.
  • Truck Accident - Every year over 5,000 car drivers and passengers are killed in accidents involving trucks and over 500 truck drivers receive fatal injuries.
  • Whiplash Injury - Over 1,000,000 people suffer whiplash injury in the U.S. every year and almost a quarter of these patients will suffer from chronic pain and disability.
  • Auto Accident - About 1 in 30 young drivers will be injured in an accident each year.
  • Auto Accident - Young drivers are four times more likely to die in car accidents and are much more prone to speed, drive recklessly, not wear their seat belts, and drink and drive than middle-aged drivers.
  • SUV Rollover - Each year, rollovers kill about 10,000 people and injure more than 200,000 each year.
  • Auto Accident - 40% of fatalities are related to drinking and driving, 30% to speeding, and about 33% from a car going off the road.
  • Seat Belt - Seat belt use is only about 68% nationally, despite it being highly cost-effective means to prevent fatalities and serious injuries.
  • Auto Accident - Approximately 10% of all automobile accident victims become disabled.
  • Construction Accident -One out of ten construction workers is accidentally injured every year.
  • Construction Accident - More fatalities occur from falls than any other construction activity.
  • Construction Accident - Ironworkers have the greatest likelihood of being injured on a construction site.
  • Back & Neck Injury -The back is the part of the body most frequently injured at work accounting for nearly 25 percent of all work-related injuries.
  • Personal Injury - Injuries to the legs, arms and hands are the next most frequent bodily injuries.
  • Auto Accident - Auto accidents on our Nation's roadways are a serious threat to the traveling public and are the leading cause of death for those under the age of thirty-four.
  • Auto Accident - There were about 2.9 million injuries and 42,815 people killed in auto accidents in 2002. That equates to over 115 fatalities per day.

  • Mesothelioma - It is estimated that there will be about 250,000 cases of Mesothelioma before 2020.
  • Mesothelioma - Mesothelioma has a latency period of 20 to 50 years after the first exposure to asbestos.
  • Manganese - A recent study found that a group of welders who had Parkinson's disease developed symptoms approximately 15 years earlier than did other Parkinson's patients.
  • Benzezne Exposure - Has been banned as a solvent in the United States for over twenty 20 years, yet workers are still exposed by direct and indirect sources. People working with petroleum solvents containing benzene are at greatest risk, because Benzene remains in use in most petroleum solvents. By using the solvent, workers may come into contact by breathing it into their lungs or may absorb it through their skin when applying the solvent. Millions of workers may be exposed to benzene in the U.S. every year- estimated at more than 3 million workers.
  • Beryllium Exposure - Scientific evidence has confirmed that beryllium is a human carcinogen and a number of large epidemiologic studies have shown an increased risk of lung cancer among those exposed to beryllium. An estimated 18,000 workers may be exposed to beryllium and beryllium oxide in the workplace.
  • Otho Evra Patch - A dozen young women died last year from blood clots believed to be related to the birth-control patch Ortho Evra, and dozens more survived strokes and other clot-related problems.
  • Vioxx - An estimated 30,000 people have died.
  • Celebrex - Deaths reported.
  • Bextra - Deaths reported.
  • Zyprexa - Deaths reported.
  • Duragesic Patch - Deaths reported.
